Theta Alpha Lambda Sorority is a local sorority founded on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus by five incredible women in 1965. The founding sisters include Joanne Capilets, Diane Stewart, Kathy DeRico, Donna Germaine, and Jerene Betts. Theta Alpha Lambda was recognized with probational status in January 1966. The Thalians continue to increase in number with each passing year.   

  In November 2015, 50 years later, another group of five women began to organize Theta Alpha Lambda Alumnae Organization with the mission to further the bond of sisterhood beyond SUNY Plattsburgh. This organization received nonprofit incorporation status in January 2016.
